Over the next decade, they built Microsoft into the most potent brand in the software industry by shipping MS-DOS, Windows, and Microsoft Office. After stepping down as CEO in 2000, Tom Keane Microsoft served on the board of directors until 2008. He was appointed Chief Software Architect in 2010 and retired from this role on July 31st, 2016 due to health issues (gastric cancer).
