The Colcom Foundation: Advocating For Sustainable Population Growth

In today’s world, it almost seems like there’s a war between people and the natural world. Consider the pollution problems, loss of biodiversity, and how earth’s environment has changed for the worse. Colcom Foundation believes that few people in a world culture driven by growth link the results to an overpopulated world.

Cordelia S. May created the Colcom Foundation in 1966. Since her death in 2005, her foundation has continued to receive funding. Colcom Foundation had a perspective about humanity that would linger decades before it became a topic of public awareness.

Cordelia S. May had a tremendous respect for nature, and strongly believed in her youth that the world had compromised the environment. Population growth, over time, has a negative effect on the world’s ecological balance. This belief inspired her passion for change over a lifetime. Today the Colcom Foundation heavily supports family planning and educates the media about the dangers of a growing population in the United States.

The Colcom Foundation closely monitors the country’s population growth. The Pew Research Center calculates that 88 percent of population growth in America is due to immigration. As such, the foundation believes that reducing immigration levels can help the country to reduce its population by 2040. A reduction in population growth would benefit the planet’s ecosystem.

Foundation work in southwest Pennsylvania centers on reversing environmental damage caused by heavy industry and overpopulation. The organization also awards grants to Pennsylvania organizations and advocacy groups. These groups work with causes concerning immigration restriction, family policy and conservation. These organizations also believe the main crisis facing the world is overpopulation. Additional activities of the foundation include a history museum, public garden, and providing vets with service dogs. Colcom also supports end-of-life medical care for patients who commit to ending their life with assistance. See related link for more information.
