Levi Pettit: Balancing Athletics and Academics
Levi Pettit’s journey in finance began with a strong foundation in both academics and athletics at the University of Texas at Dallas. Graduating magna cum laude in 2018 with a double major in finance and economics, Pettit demonstrated exceptional academic prowess while also serving as a member of the men’s golf team.
Reflecting on his time as a student-athlete, Levi Pettit provides insight into the unique aspects of playing Division III sports: “In Division III, there are no athletic scholarships. There’s no professional aspirations; everybody who’s playing is really just there because they love the game.”
This experience as a collegiate golfer, where he served as team captain for two seasons, taught Pettit valuable lessons about dedication, time management, and teamwork – skills that would prove essential in his future finance career.
Pettit’s academic achievements, graduating with high honors while balancing the demands of being a student-athlete, set the stage for his future success in the finance industry. His ability to excel in both areas demonstrated a strong work ethic and the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
After graduation, Pettit’s career quickly took off. He worked as an enterprise risk management analyst at Independent Financial, which operates 90 financial centers in Texas and Colorado. He then moved on to a role as a credit analyst at Veritex Bank, a Texas-based mid-sized community financial institution.
Pettit’s experience balancing academics and athletics at the University of Texas at Dallas provided him with a unique skill set that has contributed to his success in the finance industry. His journey from student-athlete to finance professional showcases the transferable skills gained from collegiate sports and rigorous academic programs.
