Kelcy Warren

Kelcy Warren is an American billionaire and the chairman and chief executive officer of Energy Transfer Partners. He has overseen the company’s growth from a small, family-owned oil and gas pipeline operator in Texas to a Fortune 500 company with approximately $4 billion yearly revenues.

He began his career as a landman for independent oil companies. In 1981, he co-founded Energy Transfer Equity (ETE) with his business partner Ray Davis. ETE became one of America’s largest privately held companies by building and acquiring more than 43,000 miles of natural gas pipelines and related assets. In 2012, ETE merged with Sunoco to form Sunoco Logistics Partners (SXL). In September 2016, SXL merged with Energy Transfer Partners to become Energy Transfer Partners. He is the vice chairman and a director of Energy Transfer Equity and serves as chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Energy Transfer Partners.

According to Forbes, Warren has an estimated net worth of $6.4 billion as of November 2017, after his company was valued at $50 billion following its merger with Sunoco Logistics Partners in September 2016. On March 8, 2018, Forbes listed Warren’s net worth at $7.2 billion after the firm’s market value doubled to $70 billion following his company’s merger with Marathon Petroleum Corporation in February 2018.

Kelcy Warren was born in Longview, Texas, on May 11, 1957. He attended Rice University in Houston, Texas, and earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. His father was a Texas oil man, and his mother was a schoolteacher. In 1981, at age 25, Warren founded Energy Transfer Partners with his business partner Ray Davis.
