Eamon O’Rourke Is More Than Just a Filmmaker
Eamon O’Rourke is an American film director from Brooklyn, New York. He studied theater and film at Colgate University. For more than 15 years, O’Rourke has been in the film industry, working in various roles. He was part of the crew that produced the film, “Wolf of Wall Street” and the television show, “The West Wing.” For several years O’Rourke operated a music video company. He directed and produced high-end music videos for independent musicians and institutions. O’Rourke is more productive at night. Although writers love to work in isolation, he finds that the more he shares his ideas, the clearer they become. To grow his business, O’Rourke takes risks and is not afraid to get out of his comfort zone. Working in the film industry has taught him to be content in whatever level of success he is in.
Eamon O’Rourke made his directorial film debut with his star-studded feature film “Asking for It.” The 2021 action thriller is about a waitress who had been sexually assaulted by her friend. Her life changes, however, when she joins an all-female gang and they embark on a journey of revenge. One of the notable aspects of the film is its inclusivity. Many action films feature men. However, this one was different as it featured women, women of color and LGBTQ+. The film won the ReFrame Stamp award because of promoting diversity. In making the film, O’Rourke also ensured the crew included diverse people.
O’Rourke’s goal was to change the common Hollywood narrative about women. He wanted to show that they were just as capable as men and that people should not look down upon them. Since the film tackled very sensitive issues, O’Rourke needed all the help he could get. He relied heavily on some of his cast members when shooting scenes involving LGBTQ+, women of color and Native Americans.
When he is not making films, O’Rourke loves doing charity work. He volunteers his services to help immigrants, advocates for reproductive rights and helps address the drug menace in New York. He assists recovering addicts by teaching them acting skills and giving Narcan kits. He also helps vulnerable populations by providing legal support.
