Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is an American organization that has been advocating against governmental interference with personal liberties since it was created in March 1993. While initially known as the Alliance Defense Fund, it underwent a renaming in July 2012.

What Does Alliance Defending Freedom Care About?

Every non-profit comes into existence because a select group of people realizes that more can be accomplished as a group, and those accomplishments can progress further when they are pursued as a group. In the case of ADF, its members are focused on five specific concerns.

While Alliance Defending Freedom is quite active within the United States, it also pursues its interests and concerns on an international level with the headquarters of its international branch located in Austria, Vienna. While other countries may or may not have some form of a highest court above all, the United States has the Supreme Court, and Alliance Defending Freedom has argued in many cases that reached those judges’ attention. Acting in the faith of their aforementioned concerns, ADF has been directly involved in cases pertinent to topics like the following.

• Supporting religious activities within public schools (“Good News Club v. Milford Central School”)
• Holding Christian prayer during civic town meetings (“Town of Greece v. Galloway”)
• Narrowing access to contraceptives under the Affordable Care Act (“Zubik v. Burwell”)
• Prohibiting homosexual marriage and supporting businesses opposed to serving homosexual couples (“303 Creative LLC v. Elenis”)
