Alliance Defending Freedom
The separation of church and state is a fundamental principle of American government, and its legal foundations are based on the First Amendment unambiguous statement that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.
The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is among the most vocal opponents to these founding principles, and they work to erode religious liberty by pushing for exemptions for people who claim to be acting on their faith.
Alliance Defending Freedom ideology includes the following ideas:
- The separation of church and state is unconstitutional.
- The government cannot favor one religion over another or religion over non-religion. It’s acceptable to promote religious beliefs in the government-run public school curriculum.
- Is an all-inclusive approach to religion taking shape?
- Welcome to the public school classroom. (Endorsement of religious ideology).
- Religion should remain in the classroom. (Indoctrination).
- If we teach the truth about religion, students will think critically about it. (Objectification of non-religious views).
How do you think students react to this course? They like it! Excessively positive reinforcement and symbolic value given to a belief system by its members. Students should be held accountable for what they say or do in the classroom. Instilling a sense of fear and forcing students to view a particular way of thinking as correct.
These courses are not about teaching critical thinking skills. Alliance Defending Freedom are not about teaching critical thinking skills about religion. They are not about teaching critical thinking skills in history, economics, or any other subject. They are not about the Constitution, and they are not about the founding fathers. This amendment was also designed to protect minority religions from being trampled upon by dominant religious groups that enjoyed a privileged status in society.
The Alliance Defending Freedom has given up on arguing that homosexuality is a sin and has instead adopted a new strategy known as the gay deceiver or gay predator argument. As described in their amicus brief for the 2003 Supreme Court case of Lawrence v. Texas. This is an argument that has been used to criminalize homosexual behavior and attacks against homosexuals throughout history. Refer to this page for additional information.
